Water gardens

There is just something about water gardens that helps people feel more tranquil and relaxed. These gardens are highly popular in Asian countries, but are certainly beautiful, regardless of where they are located.

So, for those who want to bring the Far East a little bit closer to home, here are some of the items that you can purchase to help build a more beautiful and enjoyable water garden:

• Wooden bridges – Having one or two small wooden bridges in the garden is effective because it allows the people in the garden to feel a bit more at one with the water that surrounds them as they are able to look straight down into it. Also, because there is likely a lot of wood in the area, it is nice to see the contrast between unfinished wood lying on the ground and finished wood in the form of bridges.
• Koi pond – A Koi pond is a place that could draw people to a garden and encourage them to stay for a long time. The bright orange color of the Koi is usually contrasted by the green or brown colors that surround the pond. The pond is a place where people would stop and relax for several minutes at a time.
• Benches – If you have a Koi pond, or even if you don’t, it is a good idea to have benches near the water where people can sit and relax. These benches are best if wooden simply because they better fit in with the surroundings around them.

There are certainly many items that can and should be included in water gardens, But a bit of local flair can be added to each garden as well. When planning, think of some of the indigenous plants and local culture and try to include those things in the garden.
